Technically, there can be any one of the following reasons that you wish to change your photo on your Passport:

• The new Passport with 10 years validity from the Date of issuance will have a new Machine number.
• The New Passport will be linked to your old cancelled Passport in your possession. The New Passport will show your old Passport details in a column.
• Your old Passport will be Cancelled and will remain in your possession. However, all visa / travel related grants in your old cancelled Passport will continue to be valid.
